Want free stuff?

just before lunchtime on Thursday, the 30th of November 2006 by Chad

Howzabout a free copy of Windows Vista and Office 2007?
Visit The Power of Together. Kinda a weird name, but anyways, you sit through a few webcasts, and they’ll send you free copies.
It’s a great gift for the holidays! Hehheh

Why the USA rules

in the late afternoon on Tuesday, the 28th of November 2006 by Chad

The BBC needs a lesson in free speech.

But unless there was a voluntary code of conduct there would be no form of redress for people angered at content.

Uhhh… why *should* there be a form of redress for people angered at content? Someone will always be pissed off at something someone wrote. By giving an avenue of redress, you’re just raising a bunch of pussies who shut down anything they don’t agree with.

The Bobby

in the early afternoon on Friday, the 24th of November 2006 by Chad

Oh yes, Thanksgiving is over. What to do with the leftovers?
Simply make the best sandwich ever. The Bobby, of Capriotti’s fame.

Go grab a long torpedo sub roll. Sourdough is cool too if you’re into that kinda thing.
Slice in half, at a 15 degree angle off the horizontal. This is so the sandwich stays together while eating.
Scoop out a bit of the bread from the inside, careful not to go too deep.
Put down a nice layer of Mayo.
Shred your leftover turkey. And believe it or not, the turkey is best if it is a little dry on this sandwich. Put down a nice thick layer.
On goes the stuffing! Yes, your normal Stove Top stuffing goes on the sandwich too.
And finally, a spread of canned cranberry sauce. Oh yes, you must add the cranberry sauce, and there are no substitutions on this sandwich allowed.
Close the lid tightly, and wrap in butcher paper, Saran Wrap, or something else for about 10 minutes.

Enjoy!

Microsoft Vista

in the early evening on Saturday, the 18th of November 2006 by Chad

So, Vista is out on MSDN today, so I thought I’d download and install it.  I had to reinstall my primary system anyways, since it has been getting a little slow.

The install was choppy, kept failing, until I figured out that the plugs going in to my SATA drive just weren’t staying in place.  Out with the SATA, in with an older EIDE.

After that, the install was quick and painless.  Figuring out where everything is will be the primary challenge.  But I have it joined to the domain, on a wireless network, with Office 2007 and all, and everything is behaving itself.  Of course, I turned off the dreaded admin prompts and things are just about perfect.  It looks pretty slick too.

Of course, it did tell me my video card blows chunks.  But its tough finding a half height AGP8X dual head card that has very high performance…

GAYDAR

just before lunchtime on Saturday, the 11th of November 2006 by Chad

GAYDAR is in the news

In experiments, Bailey has shown videos of men talking and walking, then asked people to rate whether the subjects are gay. The viewers were right about 70 percent of the time, he said.

OK, so let me get this straight.  The same people protesting saying that being gay has a genetic basis, are also the ones saying you can’t tell the difference?!?

Some idjit on slashdot years ago was commenting on an article on the Atkins diet.  Basically his point was that Asians are usually skinny, but eat rice all the time.  So Atkins is crap of course, because Asians surely aren’t genetically different to maybe process starches differently.  Well, if they weren’t genetically different at all, they wouldn’t be called Asians, or Negroid, or Caucasian.  Because they would all look exactly alike.  As it is, I don’t know of any research that says Asian people do digest rice better, however that doesn’t mean it isn’t true.

But back to the subject at hand.  If being gay is genetic, that means that there are usually multiple expressions of the genetic change.  These expressions are most likely detectable some way by the general public, even if subconciously.

More on people who tell you what you should do.

mid-afternoon on Thursday, the 9th of November 2006 by Chad

Today@UCI Press Release-

A new study led by a UC Irvine economist debunks a popular argument against urban sprawl – that living farther from neighbors decreases social interaction. In fact, the data shows that suburban living is better for one’s social life.Using data from 15,000 Americans living in various places across the country, researchers found that residents of sprawling suburban spaces actually have more friends, more contact with neighbors and greater involvement in community organizations than citydwellers who live in very close proximity to each other.

Nothing I hate more (well, other than being called a consumer rather than a citizen) is those very important people who tell you how you should live.  Such as all those social “scientists” who have been saying for years that the mass herds of people need to live in the cities…

Its November 9th

mid-afternoon on Thursday, the 9th of November 2006 by Chad

… and I haven’t posted all month yet.  I know, I’m slacking… stuff to do thats more important ya know.

Yesterday was my birthday.  Lotsa cool stuff happened on that day in history, most importantly Led Zeppelin IV was released which of course has Stairway to Heaven on it.  I share my birthday with such luminaries as Bram Stoker, Edmond Halley (of Halley’s Comet fame), Courtney Thorne-Smith, and Parker Posey.

I do apologize to all my blogging buddies out there… I haven’t had time to cruise their sites lately either.  Hopefully soon I’ll check back in.

And leaving you with a quote from a WWII vet who recently said…

The problem with this country is that we no longer have the balls to stand a man up against the wall and shoot him.

That’s for all you ostriches who recently voted.
