What’s really wrong with the media?

in the early morning on Wednesday, the 31st of May 2006 by Chad

Issues like this, via Media Lies

Three years gone and Iraq’s most famous soldiers are Jessica Lynch and Lynndie England, a victim and a criminal, respectively. Abu Ghraib remains the most famous battle of the war.

What I want to ask is this:  How many of your local newspapers ever covered the fact that there is a Congressional Medal of Honor recipient (not winner) from the war in Iraq?

Tech of the day

around lunchtime on Tuesday, the 30th of May 2006 by Chad

This looks really slick: Openfiler

I would use this today if I had a need for it.  I’ve used SNAP servers all the way up to Network Appliance Filers.  And if you just need a small business/departmental file server where you already have domain controllers, just drop this in on a good piece of hardware.

Gross Asininity

mid-morning on Sunday, the 28th of May 2006 by Chad

What’s Next? Figuring out that farts do, indeed, stink?

It’s a question that has baffled scientists, academics and pub bores through the ages: What came first, the chicken or the egg?

I’m sorry but if this has been “baffling” scientists throughout the ages… I think a lot of PHDs need to go to Harvard and MIT and demand their money back.

Who in the real world hasn’t figured this out by the time they’re oh… say, 4 years old?

Wusses

Shots fired in Congress?

Authorities reported no arrests, gunfire or even injuries after a methodical three-hour search that stranded lawmakers and aides alike in their offices - though one aide was so rattled by the sight of police tactical teams that she was taken to a nearby hospital.

Pathetic.   Are these the types of people we want in our government?  I’m surprised it wasn’t Ted Kennedy who fainted with the vapors…

That’s fact checking for you

in the early morning on Friday, the 26th of May 2006 by Chad

via The News Journal

Investigators were called to the home at about 2:30 a.m. According to Navarro, the 38-year-old was asked to leave the party before jumping into a Chevrolet pickup with out-of-state plates. He drove over the curb at the victims, dragging one about 15 years before striking a mailbox and a parked car.

Makes you wonder if he had to stop for gas anytime…

Welcome Back!

terribly early in the morning on Friday, the 19th of May 2006 by Chad

So I knew I was actually back on the east coast, when after leaving Philly airport in the rental car, I hadn’t gotten 5 miles when I was hit by a budweiser can, thrown out the window of a pickup truck proudly sporting the “Union Carpenter” bumper sticker.  Oh yeah, at around 2pm.

What a life these guys must lead!

And nothing like seeing I95 once again, backed up solid in Delaware at 2:30 in the afternoon.  For no apparent reason…

So the DaVinci Code Movie Sucks and Blows

in the early morning on Wednesday, the 17th of May 2006 by Chad

According to the Cannes’ Film Festival critics.

But this guy is obviously a dick, whoever the hell he is…

“If we have offended any Christians I would ask them to forgive us, which seems to be one of the main tenements in the New Testament,” actor Paul Bettany, who plays Silas in the film, said with a smile during an interview with CNN’s Brooke Anderson at the Cannes Film Festival Tuesday.

The shark has long since died

in the early evening on Sunday, the 14th of May 2006 by Chad

Every once in a while I’ll watch the Simpsons on Sunday nights.  Just a random check to see is it really as craparific as I thought it would be.  Each time the show gets more and more craptacular.

Do the voice actors, while reading their lines, occasionally look at what they’re doing and say something to the writers?  Are there even writers anymore, or is it some dumb computer mashing together various bits of things that have long since stopped being funny?

A few years ago they had a special on where the actors were in a studio taking questions.  One of them of course was is the show still as good.  They all responded, in what I suspect was a drug induced haze, all said “it was better than cats, i want to watch it again and again…” errr… wrong quote, but you get the idea.

C’mon people, please put that show down before it starts hacking up blood…

What’s the best thing out of New Jersey?

in the early morning on Thursday, the 4th of May 2006 by Chad

Some would say its the Sopranos.  Other’s say its the pollution, but much of that is imported from New York.  Atlantic City? That’s pretty cool, I’ve won good money there.

Howzabout me?  (born in Rahway) Nahhh… not even close.

It’s Taylor Ham baby!

Oh yeah, the tangy goodness.  Now available mail order.  I may never have to fly back east again…

Thank you Bob Evans!

in the early morning on Monday, the 1st of May 2006 by Anarchy

About 4 months ago, I went off on a RANT about how I get treated whenever I take my family out to dinner at Applebee’s.  Well… needless to say, that I’m still mildly boycotting this establishment, and am looking for new places to take my family for a meal.  We’ve tried out a few restaurants, but haven’t had much luck in finding someplace welcoming.

HOWEVER… this past weekend, my wife and I decided to take the kids out for breakfast (just to change it up a little).  We debated back and forth about where to go… and then the idea of “Bob Evans” dawned upon me.  I hadn’t set foot in a Bob Evans in at least 10 years (with the perspective of the single male)… now a decade later, with the eyes of a man who is married with children, I thought it would be beneficial to take another look.

And thank God I did… it was the best dining experience I have had in the past 5 years.  Now… keep in mind that this was at 8:00am on a Saturday… so I expected the crowds to be light.  So I did keep that in mind… however, I took a good look around and liked what I saw.

  • We were greeted and seated immediately upon entering.
  • The host who seated us took us to a table that actually accommodated EVERYONE!  (Yes… this has been rare lately.)
  • Looking about the room, there were several tables arranged to accommodate larger families… brilliant!
  • The restaurant was CLEAN!  Not just the food prep area… I looked at several tables on the way in, and they were all wiped down and perfectly arranged.
  • The kid’s menu had pictures for each item… so my 4 year old daughters could point to what they wanted without Mommy and Daddy having to explain each item to them.
  • The waitress was friendly and patient.
  • Our meal arrived promptly… and ALL AT ONCE.  (I cant’ stand it when parts of the meal show up at different times… and then you have to explain to a 4-year-old why Mommy got her dinner, but she didn’t.)
  • The waitress came back to check on our progress, and took an interest in our satisfaction.  I never felt the need to hail her down once… not even for the check.
  • I never saw the bottom of my coffee cup until I was ready to walk out the door.
  • Finally… the food was pretty damn tasty as well.  My wife couldn’t make it all the way through her huge omelet.  The kids were loving thier pancakes.  And me… I had eggs, bacon, home fries, and biscuits with gravy… and I needed a nap soon afterwards.

I’ll be going back to Bob Evans soon.

America shall win the war. Therefore, I will work. I will save. I will sacrifice. I will endure. I will fight cheerfully and do my utmost, as if the whole issue of the struggle depended on my alone.
