Thank You Microsoft!!!

Uhhh, that’s sarcasm.

Go ahead, install Windows 2003 Service Pack 1.  It is early in the morning, you have about 10 hours before the Rocky Mountain Blogger Bash 4.0 starts.  That is plent of time for what is a twenty minute install.

Needless to say, that stupid little voice is buried in the back yard somewhere now.  I am still cleaning up the mess that this service pack caused.  Many hours of not booting at all, and even after getting into safe mode and uninstalling, no dice.  Or booting either.  Finally, I had to drag out the original CD and run a repair.  Except the original CD is a little scratched, so I hope those few files weren’t all that important that I couldn’t copy.

Lots of fine tuning, and the box might be stable enough to run for another two months before I can rebuild it completely.

But I missed the party damnit.  I am not a happy camper today…

That’ll teach you… 2K3 SP1 is only about 4 days old. Next time, wait a couple months. Let someone else have the headaches… let someone else find all the ussues that MS didn’t think to test for. You’ll be a happier man for it…

Thanks for the confirmation of the rumors I’d been hearing. Now I definately know to wait for it.

Of course personally, I wouldn’t mind seeing my 2003 boxes crash. It’d give me an excuse to go back to 2000. This is the one time I really regret upgrading.

I know I know… But I’ve been working with SP1RC2 on other boxes for the last few weeks. I thought I would be OK. But I haven’t heard anything really bad about it yet. And 4 days should have been enough to hear rumblings at least.
As it happens, the 2003 repair process went perfectly. It boots up even faster now than it did before the issues. I reinstalled all the patches, rebooted again, and its still playing nice.
Just to be sure, I brought up 2003 on a new Virtual PC and made it a DC. All my data files and Exchange are backed up normally, so I should be good in case I do have to rebuild.

Bravo. If it wasn’t for pioneers like you, I would never be able to install SP1a.

    Thanks… I think.

People think that I must be a very strange person. This is not correct. I have the heart of a small boy... it's in a glass jar on my desk.
