“Save the Date” Census Reminders?
in the early evening on Monday, the 15th of March 2010 by Gypsy
I have a couple questions about the census.. our government wastes $14.7 billion on the census. I strongly believe there are ways we could cut the cost.
The way the census is currently handled, just makes me think of the new hype for “save-the-date” cards for weddings. They first started for weddings that were planned over a year away or destination weddings. Now brides are brainwashed to think they MUST send these out even if they are sending out the invites in another month or two. Again waste.
The current Census system.. they send out reminders plus a reminders of reminders, the census, then another reminder if the census is not completed. They want these by April 1st, but have you received this thing yet?
Why is the Census NOT done online? Why are they still mailing this stuff out? Yes not everyone has internet, but there really has to be a better way. Perhaps a method that would request online Census by say February 1st, and then send out the paper version March 1st if the online is not completed? (idea: on a specified date they could run a report that would send out a physical version of the form to any address that has not completed the online version). The current method is just ridiculous… also look at how much advertising they are doing for the Census. There must be a better and cheaper way!
FOXNews.com – The Census Bureau spent $85 million on advance letters and postcard reminders that the Census form is on its way because internal research shows such ticklers drive up response rates by 6 to 12 percent.
The race/nationality question on the census is an issue… look at all the “nationalities” they note, yet do you see “American”? What is the point of all these nationalities, yet then a broad option of “black” or “white”.. which makes up the bulk of our country’s population.
Think about those people who are a mix of Mexican, black, white, and Native American..there are allot of people with that mix, so they will be marking off multiple boxes, which makes you wonder how important and valid is this question?

Disclaimer: I subscriber to the John Gibson Radio Show, and they are starting a movement to claim “American” as their race.
I subscribe to that. not because it is “United Statesian” but it just puts a punch in the throat of all the intrinsically-racist subgroups we have in this culture.
I just got my census form in the mail, so I’m filling it out now.

I like the idea of an electronic census, but we don’t even have the IRS offering an electronic tax return, which would be easier. Sure you can file using a third party, which may or may not cost money, and may or may not make mistakes.
As for the census, I would think you would still have to have a mailing that would provide a residence code or something. But then what about all the homeless?
Don’t even get me started on race. If there were an American option, who would it be for? White americans, all americans regardless of ethnicity? I’m not sure I understand.

Residence code.. if they had a site in place to do our census (which would not take alot of time or effort) it could easily include a method to translate addresses to appropriate codes, if needed.
As far as the homeless, how is it handled now? honestly I have no idea.. but there surely is some method, else they are just non-existent in the eyes of our country?
American option.. just like if a person is multi-racial they would be selecting white, black, hispanic, etc.. in the case of American, you would select white & American and or whatever applies. (refer to the image in my post above)
I am curious to know who will opt for American.. and if we do, what will the result be? will the gov’t have a hissy fit and send them all back?
