Catch-22

mid-morning on Wednesday, the 23rd of February 2005 by Chad

OK, how am I supposed to win?

  • My Colorado t-tags on the new car expire Saturday.
  • To get the registration, I need a Colorado drivers license.
  • To get the Colorado drivers license, I need my current Delaware license and a state issued birth certificate.
  • My birth certificate is city issued from Rahway, New Jersey.  That is no good, since it is city issued.
  • To get a New Jersey issued birth certificate, they need to have a copy of my current drivers license, and that is the address they will ship it to, FedEX, signature required.
  • But that is in Delaware, where I no longer live.
  • They will ship it to Colorado, once I have my Colorado drivers license as ID.
  • To get my Colorado drivers license, I need a New Jersey issued birth certificate…

Morning greets, fellow Colorado-transplant! :) I found your site thru my referral log and thought I’d pop over. I was intrigued by this post in particular, as I’ve recently had nearly the same experience. Being military, registering the car was no big deal; getting my drivers license wasn’t either, except that had I not had a military ID, I’d have been screwed, and not pleasurably either. I went in with my Forida (state issued, no less) birth certificate and they refused it, saying it wasn’t “acceptable”. Hello? There is a state SEAL on the !&%#&%$ thing. This is the only friggin’ BC they issue…whadda they want, dental records?? I was a little more than peeved and the guy could tell, too..smirking at me as if he had the upper hand….that is until I whipped out my mil-ID, which of course they can’t deny.

I love Colorado, but they have some damned strange guidelines about registering a car & getting a license here.

In any case, I’ve rambled on…..have a great day!

Yeah, but my military ID is like 8 years expired… and its the old style laminated, and red even. Not the new credit card style.
I might be lucky two ways: one- my parents are driving up to new jersey in a few days to get it for me.
and two- it doesn’t make any sense, but according to the website I can use my marriage license. So I may be OK…
