Cowards

Senators Carper and Kaufman are refusing to hold town hall meetings.
Sen. Tom Carper (D)
Sen. Ted Kaufman (D – non elected, hand picked by a Dem gov in her last days to replace Sen. Biden, who he worked for. Commonly believed to be keeping the seat warm for Biden’s son)
Cowards. Or: baby, caitiff, chicken heart, chicken liver, chicken, craven, cur, dastard, deserter, faint-of-heart, faintheart, fraidy-cat, funk, gutless, invertebrate, jellyfish, lily liver, malingerer, mouse, pessimist, poltroon, quitter, rabbit, recreant, scaredy cat, shirk, shirker, skulker, sneak, weakling, white liver, wimp, yellow belly, yellow.
Take your pick.
It seems as though the Senators from DE can’t face their constituents (which in Libland, it truly amazing, in itself).
Lawmakers opt out of shouting matches. Carper, Kaufman hear from constituents outside of town halls.
Constituents hoping to speak in person to Delaware’s two U.S. senators about health care reform and other legislative issues may catch them at various gatherings during their August recess.
But there’s one place they won’t find them: a town hall meeting.
Some Delawareans say such meetings are useful forums. But in recent weeks, town hall gatherings about health care reform have turned into raucous shouting matches where lawmakers have been protested, booed, shouted down, even threatened by people angry with the legislative proposals moving through Congress.
While Democratic Sen. Tom Carper plans to travel the state and hold a telephone town hall during the August recess to discuss health care and the economy, he won’t hold any traditional town hall meetings, said his spokeswoman, Bette Phelan.
“As everyone has seen on television lately, many recent town hall meetings on health care held by members of Congress have been very disruptive and unproductive,” she said.
Democratic Sen. Ted Kaufman will forego town halls in favor of meetings with small groups.
Recent town hall meeting have been “disruptive” and “unproductive”? Why? Did the people fail to drink the KoolAid on the way in? Did the happy gas piped into the room fail to work?
People are mad. And, they have every right to be. The government is going places that it was never supposed to go. They are spending money like it was water. They are doing a happy dance over our freedoms. And now, we are supposed to trust them with something as personal and as important as healthcare?
Darned right people have the right to address THEIR EMPLOYEE about the matter.
Delaware’s congressional delegation, meanwhile, is using multiple other forms of outreach.
For Kaufman, that has meant meeting with a wide range of health care interest groups, from insurers to patient groups. He plans to seek more feedback from the Delaware State Education Association, Rotary members and others during the break, believing “it’s more effective to have focused conversations with small groups of Delawareans,” said spokeswoman Amy Dudley.
Great, so he will meet with the special interest groups, but not with the average, every day constituent, who isn’t part of a “group”. Warms the cockles of my heart….
Carper will hold one or two telephone town hall meetings and private listening sessions with groups that contacted his office. He will answer constituent questions on local radio call-in shows and meet with Delaware and Philadelphia news outlets to discuss health care reform.
Two words: Call screeners.
To Darlene Battle, Carper’s upcoming private session makes sense. She was invited to one in early September after her unsuccessful attempt to get him to speak at a town hall-style forum for members of Health Care for America Now, a progressive coalition of reform groups.
The group, which advocates a government-sponsored health insurance option, has been using television ads to target Carper, who has called himself “agnostic” on such an option.
Carper’s meetings will last 90 minutes, and each group that is invited can bring two people, said Battle, head organizer for the Delaware Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or ACORN.
Battle had hoped for a more open forum to accommodate more of her large organization. But she said lawmakers can’t learn what their constituents want during a “shouting match.”
“They’re learning different ways to have control over their audiences, and to me this is a good way,” she said. “At least it seems to be.”
OK, did anyone notice the incredible IRONY that someone representing ACORN is complaining about SHOUTING MATCHES?!?!?!?
Control of their audience? Send for the hypnotists….
So, Carper is willing to meet with ACORN and is willing to meet with Health Care for America Now, but he’s afraid of Joe Shmo living down the street?
As I have stated previously, there is a real danger when our government surrounds itself with yes men. I believe that they were truly surprised when the town hall meetings didn’t go as planned. I really think that the Government doesn’t have a clue about what the average American thinks, and frankly, I don’t think that they care….
As an aside, sometimes the gov reminds me of my kids. Like a three year old who sticks their fingers in their ears and repeats “I am not listening to you” or just hums.
