Private Insurance Carrier = Villian

Pelosi lashes out against insurance companies
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Thursday ramped up her criticism of insurance companies, accusing them of unethical behavior and working to kill a plan to create a new government-run health plan.
“It’s almost immoral what they are doing,” Pelosi said to reporters, referring to insurance companies. “Of course they’ve been immoral all along in how they have treated the people that they insure,” she said, adding, “They are the villains. They have been part of the problem in a major way. They are doing everything in their power to stop a public option from happening.”
Immorality = trying to kill the Obamacare program. Well, label me a sinner then. Who knew, that there were truly eight deadly sins?
I am not saying that private insurance isn’t without fault. But, does anyone actually believe that the gov can do it better? Look at medical fraud – private insurance actively investigates fraud. The gov? Barely ever catches fraud (after all, it is only taxpayer’s dollars at stake).
And, part of the reason that health insurance costs as much as it does, is because the government requires it to cover so much. You can’t (or your company can’t) pick and chose what they are willing to pay for. They are mandated to cover Chiro, mental health, accupuncture, routine screenings (as vary by state). All of this adds up.
And, they are not “evil” to have a pre-existing condition limitations. After all, if we could sign up for insurance AFTER the condition was found, why would we ever pay for insurance when we are healthy? And, most “limitations” will still cover conditions that were covered under a different policy, as long as you don’t have a long lapse in your coverage periods.
Do I think that private insurance is perfect? No. But, I do think that it is better than what the gov will provide us with.

If you have a child, they want to visit you to ensure that you are treating your child correctly. If you are over 65, they want to talk to you about “end of life decisions”. Your care will be determined by a political appointee.
Does anyone really want Big Brother making their medical decisions?

The banks were forced into making bad mortgages by Barney Frank, Maxine Waters, & Friends … but according to Congress it is capitalism that caused the economic meltdown. Sadly, the CBSNBCCNNABC’s of the world simply play along.
Various GOVERNMENT entities mandate bad insurance regulations, refuse to provide tort reform, and then Nancy Pelosi labels the insurance companies as villains. Sadly, the CBSNBCCNNABC’s of the world simply play along.
These people speak of villains and yet we have Congressman and Presidential appointees evading taxes, lying, stealing and manipulating people every way they can. Woe to those who call evil good.
Thanks be to heaven for the internet, talk radio and other information sources. The truth seems to be seeping its way into the apathetic minds of the American people.
Hope yet remains for the people in this country that still value Life and Liberty.

I found this article oddly appropriate:
http://www.wgrz.com/news/local/story.aspx?storyid=69029&catid=37
It is about a man who calls for the ambulance at least twice a week, all on the taxpayer dime. He illustrates what happens when people do not have to pay anything towards their own medical costs. They have a free for all.
How many times have you heard tales of the Medicaid mom taking her kid to the ER for a sniffle – while “normal” people who pay at least part of their care, only seek medical care when needed?
Ever noticed the commercials for the “hoverround” chairs – it states that you will not have to pay anything for it. My guess is that many people, who don’t really need it, still apply to Medicare to pay for it. After all, only the taxpayers will be stuck with the bill.
One columnist recently stated that people pay more to get their nails done than to see the doctor. Which is actually true. Yet, they complain about the doctor’s charge. I would hazard a guess that the Doctor paid a lot more for his/her education than the nail “specialist”.
Odd priorities we have.
I worked for a health insurance company for many, many years. As much as I hated the job, the company really did its best to make appropriate payments on medical claims, as defined by their health contracts. You might hate your medical insurance, but the companies generally try to pay according to your policy.
They also are inundated with fraud. Customers, doctors, employees even.
Customers – I actually found cases that the customer would “white out” the senior citizen discounts from their prescription receipts.
Doctors – do you really think that insurance is that stupid? One of the worst offenders – chiros. Most policies cover 30 chiro visits per condition. It is amazing how many people fall down the stairs, or some other nonsense the moment that the 30th visit occurs. My advise to people – only go 29 times, evidently there is a curse on people who go to the chiro 30 times.
Employees – yes even employees commit fraud. In my office, a couple of “girls” had a set up that they paid medical bills to a doctor that was actually their apartment suite.
Medicare/Medicaid never looks for fraud. Or if they do, they rarely find it. While private insurance is trying to make a profit, so they actively pursue possible fraud, Medicare is only using your money…..
And what is the major “cost savings” that the government could actually impose – tort reform. Which is something that they didn’t even mention in the over 1000 page bill. They NEED to address tort reform. Doctors shell out hordes of money for insurance. They order “cover their a**” testing which costs billions. And, who can blame them?
The government needs to get out of private business. Period.

pelosi slinging stupidity again.. she is villifying insurance companies.. and how on earth can she think that any business that would fight to exist is wrong? that is what a business of any kind does and should do.
yet, par for the course with obama and gang they are all completely out of touch with reality.
i also worked for an insurance company, and always have referred to insurance as legalized crime.. but it is because it is a gamble, you are paying into a what-if.. you are hoping you won’t have to get that pay out.. but you are covering yourself from it, so you may lose in the interim to save from the long term..
now what scenario will we see with a government run health care? and instead of insurance being our choice to have or not have, having the government mandating it..
the current systems are abused (as katie pointed out) wait till the government runs it.. think of the cost on doctors? it won’t be worth it to be a doctor anymore… so there will be less doctors, more travel and wait time to be seen.. so less people seeing a doctor because of that hassle.. the end cost will be much higher because people will avoid care, and more people will abuse the system.. this is just a web of horror.
