"Obama Is Sort of a God"
around lunchtime on Tuesday, the 9th of June 2009 by Katie
Direct quote from Newsweek’s Evan Thomas.
“Reagan was all about America… Obama is above that now. We’re not just parochial, we’re not just chauvinistic, we’re not just provincial. We stand for something…. Obama is standing above the country, above the world, a sort of God.” Evan Thomas, Newsweek, with MSNBC’s Chris Matthews voicing his agreement.
Is it any wonder that the media still, in large part, refuses to criticize Obama?
Actually, I want my elected President to be ALL ABOUT AMERICA. I want our country’s leader to have our country’s best interest at heart.
Does anyone actually believe that Obama has America’s best interest at heart?
He rammed the “stimulus” package down our throats. He is destroying what was left of the auto industry. The industry sold their souls to the devil when they took his money. And now the devil wants his due. So, there is talk of a “pay czar”. And he is parceling out the auto companies to his cronies, while ignoring actual law. And “miraculously”, the auto industry wants to build “eco friendly” cars that no one want to buy.
And then there was the bank takeover. And the state stimulus packages. And states do not get to decide not to take the money. It will be forced on them (anyone who doubts me can look to South Carolina).
So, what’s next for the Obamamessiah.
Destroying the healthcare system. I’m not saying that what we have is perfect. But, it is better than any of the other choices that I have seen. But, Obama has spoken, declaring that he will have a whole new system by summer, and his political cronies are more than willing to comply.
Gosh help you if you are sick.
Out comes the Kennedy Dodd Health Care Bill. Just the name should frighten you. Has anything that either of these two have done been good for the country?
Some of the “highlights” of the bill:
The Kennedy-Dodd bill would create an individual mandate requiring you to buy a “qualified” health insurance plan, as defined by the government. If you don’t have “qualified” health insurance for a given month, you will pay a new Federal tax.
Mandatory health insurance. Joy. And yet another tax.
The bill would also create an employer mandate. Employers would have to offer insurance to their employees.
Great. Just in case any business was STILL in our country, give them YET ANOTHER reason to flee in droves.
All health insurance would be required to have guaranteed issue and renewal, modified community rating, no exclusions for pre-existing conditions, no lifetime or annual limits on benefits, and family policies would have to cover “children” up to age 26.
Plans would be required to cover a list of preventive services approved by the Federal government.
A qualified plan would have to cover “essential health benefits,” as defined by a new Medical Advisory Council (MAC), appointed by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
The MAC would also define what “affordable and available coverage” is for different income levels, affecting who has to pay the tax if they don’t buy health insurance. The MAC’s rules would go into effect unless Congress passed a joint resolution (under a fast-track process) to turn them off.
This is where they clearly demonstrate the desire to kill off the health insurance industry. Again, I restate, I don’t believe that we have a perfect system, but I believe that it is better than most.
But, private insurers will not be able to pay for the above coverage. No pre-existing? No limits? And “children” up to the age of 26 (when are the kiddies supposed to ever leave the nest)?
And yet another government entity. As if government wasn’t bloated enough. The “Medical Advisory Council”. And their decisions will be law, unless Congress passes a law to stop it (stop laughing about how ridiculously improbable that would be).
Health insurance plans could not charge higher premiums for risky behaviors: “Such rate shall not vary by health status-related factors, … or any other factor not described in paragraph (1).” Smokers, drinkers, drug users, and those in terrible physical shape would all have their premiums subsidized by the healthy.
That one is interesting, because the courts have found that it is legal for companies to charge higher premiums for the above risk factors.
Guaranteed issue and renewal combined with modified community rating would dramatically increase premiums for the overwhelming majority of those Americans who now have private health insurance. New Jersey is the best example of health insurance mandates gone wild. In the name of protecting their citizens, premiums are extremely high to cover the cross-subsidization of those who are uninsurable.
The bill would expand Medicaid to cover everyone up to 150% of poverty, with the Federal government paying all incremental costs (no State share). This means adding childless adults with income below 150% of the poverty line.
People from 150% of poverty up to 500% (!!) would get their health insurance subsidized (on a sliding scale). If this were in effect in 2009, a family of four with income of $110,000 would get a small subsidy. The bill does not indicate the source of funds to finance these subsidies.
Ahhh, now we get to the heart of the matter. Subsidized and socialized healthcare for all. Or, for the voting majority at least. To be paid for by those “evil” rich people and corporations, no doubt.
The bill does not specify what spending will be cut or what taxes will be raised to pay for the increased spending. That is presumably for the Finance Committee to determine, since it’s their jurisdiction.
The bill defines an “eligible individual” as “a citizen or national of the United States or an alien lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent residence or an alien lawfully present in the United States.”
The bill would create a new pot of money for state gateways to pay “navigators” to educate people about the new bill, distribute information about health plans, and help people enroll. Navigators receiving federal funds “may include … unions, …”
“Navigators”. Great. Yet another layer of government. Are these going to be the healthcare ACORN equivalent?
Is there any way to stop the radical and ruinous changes that are being forced on us?

Life (but only if you make it out of the hospital), Liberty (nice name for a Jeep), and mandatory health insurance.
I know that’s what the Founding Fathers risked everything for.
So my 19 year old, who does not go to college full time, who is in fine health will now be required to buy health insurance or pay a tax. This is tyranny friends, not liberty.

From my quick reading of the bill, your employer paid health insurance would be required to cover your 19 year old child. Or, you would be required to have your child on that coverage, until that child is 26 (wow, most of the “kids” in my parents’ generation were married with kids of their own by then).
I shiver whenever I hear about “mandatory health insurance”. I believe that the individual has the right to decide whether they want health insurance. I admit, when I was younger and healthy, I either didn’t have any, or had very bad coverage. That is what I was willing to pay for.
My boss, who is in excellent health and is unmarried, chooses to have a “catastrophe” coverage. He pays for “normal” things. He has insurance for health disasters. Would the government determine that he did not have enough?
Basically, I believe that the government is trying to get as many people addicted to the public dole, as possible. The more users, the more votes. And, only those “evil” rich will end up paying for things. This is not the value that made our country strong and successful. This is what will destroy our country and rob our children of the “rights” that too many have traded off to the “messiah”.

“I believe that the government is trying to get as many people addicted to the public dole, as possible.”
I agree with you 100%. Robbing ‘Peter’ to buy votes from Paul… and doing this long enough so Paul believes it is his fundamental to right to never grow up.
