Just because we are not directly affected, does not mean we won’t be. Pueblo is looking at a mandatory recycling program! Costing people even more! Watch out for the enviro-freaks near you!

PUEBLO – It’s no secret that Pueblo is long overdue for a recycling program.  It’s an issue that city council will be discussing over the next few weeks.

Right now, residents can bring items to recycle at stations spread out among the city, but the new program may possibly require residents to recycle.  President of Pueblo City Council, Vera Ortegon told NEWSCHANNEL 13 that the program would cost residents somewhere between $5 and $6 dollars a month.  It may seem like a small amount, but council is concerned that it may not be the best time to add more fees given the current economy.

The other option the council may consider is creating a recycling program, but not making it mandatory. The problem that option poses is if the money would be well spent. If few residents chose not to participate in the program the money would go to waste.

The council will discuss these options over the next few weeks.  Be sure and stay tuned to NEWSCHANNEL 13 and KRDO.com for updates on this story.

(answering phone) Hello, IT. Have you tried turning it off and on again?
