The Cult of Personality

in the early morning on Wednesday, the 21st of January 2009 by Katie

Yesterday, for some reason, this song was repeatedly playing in my head.

I’ll be honest, yesterday I had “big plans”.  I had my DVD lineup all set – Doctor Who, some Ghost Hunters, more Doctor Who.  Basically “happy” DVD’s for myself, since I knew that the TV would only have the consecration of the Obamamessiah.

Unfortunately, plans changed, and I ended up spending the day in the ER (and no, I wasn’t there because I had to duct tape my head to keep it from exploding).  To make the day even more perfect, every TV in the place was tuned into the inauguration.  Joy.  To make it even better, it was the coverage that “starred” Katie “really needs to take a cold shower” Couric.

Could they show just a modicum of respect?  Bush might have had some failings, but don’t you think that they could have acknowledged on iota of his successes?

Coverage starts with people booing Bush on his way in.  (Classy – heh?)

Incoming White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel gestures prior to the inauguration ceremony of Barack Obama as the 44th President of the United States, in Washington, January 20, 2009.

Now, let’s be honest.  Bush has been more than generous in letting Obama’s team view all areas of operation.  So much so that many people seem to have forgotten that Bush was still President until yesterday.

We have not suffered another terrorist attack under his watch.  Yesterday was a prime example – yet it was completely overlooked.  What better target for terrorists could there have been?  “Millions” of people watching.  Obama up there for everyone to see.  Most of the “big wigs” there also.  A parade, parties, etc.  Yet every one was safe.  And that was due to Bush’s administration.

Couric was practically giddy when she got to point out (repeatedly) that Chief Justice Roberts “messed up”.  Yet in the next sentence gushingly raved about how cute Obama was when he also flubbed the exact same thing.

Then we come to the speech.  Egad.  So much for bipartisanship.

Full text.

That we are in the midst of crisis is now well understood. Our nation is at war, against a far-reaching network of violence and hatred. Our economy is badly weakened, a consequence of greed and irresponsibility on the part of some, but also our collective failure to make hard choices and prepare the nation for a new age. Homes have been lost; jobs shed; businesses shuttered. Our health care is too costly; our schools fail too many; and each day brings further evidence that the ways we use energy strengthen our adversaries and threaten our planet.

Great four paragraphs into it, and he’s already hinting at the “Global Warming” myth.

And let’s not forget that Pelosi and Reid and their fellow dems are largely responsible for many of the above crisis.  Look at the mortgages – dems pushed those through.  Look at our fuel needs – dems won’t even let us drill our own.  And schools – where do you start?  How much is it a failure of schools and how much is it a dependence on union shops?  Or even, gosh forbid, the students and families?  We dump hoards of money into our schools.  We get a failed product.  So, it isn’t the money that is the problem.  It is the “union shop” and the failure of some families to stress the importance of education.

On this day, we gather because we have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord.

On this day, we come to proclaim an end to the petty grievances and false promises, the recriminations and worn out dogmas, that for far too long have strangled our politics.

Petty grievances and false promises?  Worn out dogmas?  Conflict and discord?  This from the same group that has attacked Bush on every level since before he was President?  Ironic.

We remain a young nation, but in the words of Scripture, the time has come to set aside childish things.

Hey Rahm – who is being childish?

What the cynics fail to understand is that the ground has shifted beneath them — that the stale political arguments that have consumed us for so long no longer apply. The question we ask today is not whether our government is too big or too small, but whether it works — whether it helps families find jobs at a decent wage, care they can afford, a retirement that is dignified. Where the answer is yes, we intend to move forward. Where the answer is no, programs will end. Those of us who manage the public’s dollars will be held to account — to spend wisely, reform bad habits, and do our business in the light of day — because only then can we restore the vital trust between a people and their government.

I guess I rank with the cynics.  Name one government program that is successful.  And pardon me, but it isn’t government’s job to find me a job – it’s mine.  And my retirement would be a heck of a lot more comfortable if the government wasn’t so busy mortgaging our country’s future with their bailout plans.

With old friends and former foes, we will work tirelessly to lessen the nuclear threat, and roll back the specter of a warming planet.

“Warming planet” – oh please.  Statistics now show that we’ve been cooling for a decade now.  Can we please cut the global warming crap already?

OK, I admit.  I can’t take any more of the speech right now.

After the speech, there was a “poem”.

And then a prayer.

Rev. Joseph Lowery’s impassioned benediction.

“We ask you to help us work for that day when black will not be asked to give back, when brown can stick around, when yellow will be mellow, when the red man can get ahead, man, and when white will embrace what is right,”

Yes, I know, I’M THE RACIST.  But, notice how the only group that he implies is wrong are the whites?

Then the networks cut in an raved.  The “ONE” has spoken.  Seas of incredibly happy people.  No dissent.  Everything will be fixed.  (Although the DOW has it’s largest Inaugural drop – ever)

And it was immediately on the attack.  Discussions of Bush’s exit speech.

CBS Bids Good Riddance to Bush

News anchor Katie Couric got reaction from liberal historian Douglas Brinkley, who observed: “Keep in mind, a lot of Americans are thinking it’s pretty cool that he’s leaving, too. A lot of Americans didn’t take him as the real president after the Gore election in 2000. He’s been very controversial. And a lot of people voted to get rid of Bush policies. So, and for some people are cheering the helicopter leaving, because they felt stuck for eight years.” Couric agreed: “Right. Some people cheer in support, and some people, as Doug said, cheer because he’s getting out of town.”

Yes, the mass of idiots who went to DC yesterday were so “classy” that they sang “Na, na, na, na… hey hey, goodbye” to Bush as he flew away.

Later, Couric asked Brinkley about Bush’s farewell press conference, particularly about the president’s defense of his response to Hurricane Katrina: “Doug Brinkley, you wrote a book all about Katrina and I was just curious to get your reaction to how the president assessed his performance vis-a-vis that disaster in that last news conference.” Brinkley went on a left-wing rant:

He created a fairy tale for himself. Everybody knows the Bush Administration did not do a good job during Katrina. In fact, August, 2005, is the turning point. Even the national media — which had been intimidated by the Rove White House for a while — they changed. I was in New Orleans for the storm and the media was so angry at the seemingly lackadaisical response of the federal government and then the fact that the President of the United States did a flyover, didn’t put his boot heels on the ground in Louisiana or Mississippi, didn’t touch the flood waters. Many people I talked to remembered Hurricane Betsy in 1965 when Lyndon Johnson went there in the dead of night with a flashlight in his face saying ‘this is your president.’ Our president was AWOL during Katrina and it’s, I think, probably going to be one of the hardest parts of his legacy to somehow fix by writing it — changing it in a memoir or something.

OK – let’s get this one straight, finally.  Responsibility for Katrina relief falls firstly on the individual people (who should have gotten out when warned), then the local (New Orleans) gov, then on the state, and only lastly (and leastly) with the Feds.  Unlike certain other politicians, Bush does not use tragedies as a photo op.  Katrina was no different.

Couric followed up by asking: “What about his assessment…sort of saying Mayor Nagin and the Governor of Louisiana, that they couldn’t get their acts together and that really impeded the federal response?” Brinkley continued his ranting:

Well, the problem was, politics went into it a lot. FEMA was starting to look for buses that were from Republican companies to come down to New Orleans. They did blockades of people. There was — it was on every level FEMA and Homeland Security was a mess. Michael Chertoff was at an Avian Flu convention in Atlanta while 80% of New Orleans was underwater. It was — it’s mind-boggling he was able to keep his job after Katrina when the head of Homeland Security doesn’t know a major port city like New Orleans is underwater. And, incidentally, it was on the list of Homeland Security threats after a terrorist attack in New York, San Francisco earthquake, levees breaching in New Orleans, it was a very slow response. The 101st Airborne needed to have been called immediately and I interviewed men from the 101 and they all wanted to get into the action to help and they didn’t get to.

Uh huh.  Evil FEMA was only getting bids from Republicans.  Gee, what about all of the buses that were abandoned in New Orleans???  Snopes link

As Bush’s chopper heads away, Couric is heard saying

COURIC: Right. Some people cheer in support, and some people, as Doug said, cheer because he’s getting out of town. Alright, Dan Bartlett, have a safe trip to Texas.

If Conservatives were even half as vile as these libs, we’d never hear the end of it.

So, let me say – Thank you, President Bush.  I haven’t agreed with everything that you have done – but on the whole, and given the circumstances – you’ve done a good job.  I think that history will be kinder to him than his contemporaries have been.

1st ER for this celebration day of US doom… I am very sorry to hear that, and i hope all is and will be ok.

To be not only be dealing with a medical issue but to be stuck subjected to that crap.. I am very-very sorry about that!

Great recap.. since I made sure to avoid watching it.. I kept my TV off yesterday with the exception of popping a dvd later on.. so definitely on the same page as you were on how to handle “the day”.

schools.. it is interesting how they think the big issue is “underfunding” but flash back to generations that had a one room school house and a chalk board. They were smarter than today’s youth and had more morals too! Sure kids today have more tech “skills” but those are often just absorbed not learned.. most people will absorb what they need for that time period.. sadly tech took over the concept of morality.

The BEST schools out there rightnow are HOME SCHOOLS.. those are definitely not highly funded, but they do the best job.. and the kids turn out exceptional! Perhaps the government needs to take a closer look and wake up on that one?

the treatment of Bush.. i was reading another article yesterday that was saying the short-coming for McCain was his decency.. and that is true.. the libs are ravenous, nasty, and full of dirty tricks.. and able to get away with it.. as the article was reading the decency of McCain was seen as a weakness to those jackalls.. and they just picked him to bits..

reading what you cited above.. it is empty words, it says nothing of substance.. but that has been his enter campaign platform too.. he merely says the sky is falling but not what will be done… the only “plan” we have been aware of is how he plans to embrace our enemies.. (just like carter.. and werecall how well that went)… he does not have solutions he has maybe some tainted bandages to apply to the situation..

i wonder if the reason they brought of the katrina situation was because of the number of black people involved… preaching to the choir since it is the same freaking audience of gimmee greedy self serving losers that are at this (horrid) event.. as those who complained about the katrina situation in the 1st place.. again there have been how many hurricanes over the years, decades, centuries.. etc.. but these idiots live below sea level, and they opted for a corrupt government vs correcting a problem that might have helped keep the flood from occuring.. the problem was theirs, not the rest of the US not the presidents, not the governments.. and this is the disucssion we have way too often about people taking responsibility for their own actions.. and wa-la we have auto makers begging for money, banks begging for money.. we have become a freaking greedy welfare nation.. they are running out of people to pick up their tab.. that isthe bottom line of the scary crap!

again katie, great stuff.. thank you for sharing.. i am gonna throw up now!

again i hope all is well with ER situation!

PS.. on the video clip “Cult of Personality”… I loved that song way back when.. and still love it, so I can not associate it with this yahoo.. but I do know what you mean.. seems they were seeing into the future and saw this dip stick…

the video is great, the kid subjected to “media” (tv) and thankfully has the sense to shake her head and turn it off at the end.

how they flipped between various strong personalities over the years.. of course there were many more..but they hit the “pop-culture” of it. One of the other things I loved was they had intelligent lyrics and you could understand what they were saying too.. neat (grin)… very telling lyrics… i added them below…

Look into my eyes, what do you see?
    Cult of personality
I know your anger, I know your dreams
Ive been everything you want to be
    Im the cult of personality

  3. Katie Says:

When I listened to the song, again, this morning, I thought it matched perfectly. He’s not singing in praise of the cult. He’s singing to point out how ridiculous it is.

“I tell you one and one makes three”. Or, there are 57 states in the US. Or JOBS is a three letter word.

“I know your anger, I know your dreams
I’ve been everything you want me to be”

    “You gave me fortune
    You gave me fame
You me power in your god’s name
I’m every person you need to be”

Gee, could have been written about Obama.

I take the song as a warning. People just failed to heed it.

  4. tina Says:

i realize what the song means.. and think it fits way too well.. but i just don’t want to tait it with the connect of obama.. i can deal it the connection of mussolini, kennedy, etc.. but too soon for me to handle it connected to this loser! (he just is not “worthy”.. grin)

    (smiles)

  5. Katie Says:

    Now I’m laughing – Mussolini – he’s ok. But Obama – egad…

But, I perfectly understand where you are coming from.

Loved the song myself. Actually caught myself mid-head bang for a moment (not sure that my aging neck will take such abuse anymore).

I am figuring i will wake up from this nightmare.. I always figured the masses were dumbasses, but seriously did not need THIS much proof!

To select someone with no experience & no clue.. those who backed him had no idea what he stood for.. the rest of saw he is a card carrying socialist..

what American can back a man that defaces the flag as he did too??? there should have been an immediate revolt..

but again.. this just confirms the masses are idiots..

I think I will have to run the next time around, since experience does not count I am a shoe in.. I am trying to figure do I have the morons who supported Obama file into the gas chamber before or after I am in office.. I figure I can count on their votes.. but do I want them?? See Hitler had the right idea, he just chose the wrong target.. he was ahead of his time.. he should have been doing (the gas chamber, and mass murder) last year.. free obama crap.. file in here.. poof gone!

ok i am sick.. but sincere!

Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.
