Is an Environut Confessional Coming to an Airport Near You?

in the early morning on Thursday, the 25th of December 2008 by Katie

S.F. fliers may pay their way in carbon usage.

Environmentally conscious travelers flying out of San Francisco International Airport will soon be able to assuage their guilt and minimize the impact of their air travel by buying certified carbon offsets at airport kiosks.

It always comes back to money, doesn’t it?  Notice, they are not trying to reduce your actual consumption (fine by me), but they will take your money.  Isn’t this one of the practices that spurred the Protestant Reformation?

Corrupt clergy more interested in collecting money than saving souls.  Corrupt government officials more interested in stealing your money than actually “saving the planet”.

But the general idea, officials said, is that a traveler would approach a kiosk resembling the self-service check-in stations used by airlines, then punch in his or her destination. The computer would calculate the carbon footprint and the cost of an investment to offset the damage. The traveler could then swipe a credit card to help save the planet. Travelers would receive a printed receipt listing the projects benefiting from their environmental largesse.

And I’ve got a bridge to sell you in Brooklyn….

ok 1st.. love your title.. “enviroNUT”.. perfect.. i am adopting that ok?

    upside.. the booths are voluntary.
downside.. how long before they are a method of how you can get in our out of a plane?

they already pack planes to the gills.. so it is not that person is taking a private-corporate jet.. they are packed like sardines on a commerical plane.. that probably causes less damage than other land alternatives.. with the exception of a bicycle.

so summary.. ARGH! nuff’ said huh?

Back then they were called “indulgences.”

    Still seems to fit.

In many ways, the “warming” movement reminds me of religious practices. And, maybe it is a modern age “religion” for those who scoff at religion, yet seem to need it, anyway.

Instead of actually reducing their “sin” or carbon use, they choose to confess it, say their “hail Mary’s” or pay a “carbon offset”. Buying their place in heaven and minimizing their guilty feeling.

And yes, it is voluntary, for the moment. But, the UN is already putting its feelers out for a global carbon tax on the airline industry. Government, be it county, city, state, nation, or even world, can’t overlook a great money grabbing opportunity when it sees it….

I guess the thing that really peeves me off is that, even though I do not believe in human-caused global warming (and yes, even scoff at the very notion), I know that in the near future, I am going to end up paying for it.

Obama has named several environuts for his cabinet. He seems to love the UN. The UN is already investigating ways to profit from the Goricle created paranoia. They are actually talking about a cow-fart tax….

    A long time ago …

You know, I suddenly realized that I was wrong about this carbon credit thing.

I’m going to go into business. I’ll sell carbon credits to morons who believe. I have an unlimited supply of the stuff, literally, I can pull it out of thin air. I’ll sell it to the gulible, guilt ridden masses. (gee, I never thought that Al Gore and I would have anything in common, but I sound just like him…)

I do believe in profiting from the ignorant masses.. there’s a ton to be made from the moronic gore & obama followers!

i have a friend who crochets, then sells her items at craft fairs.. back in the early summer i suggests eh crochet “earth totes” for those would buy something to carry their groceries (&other purchases).. i figured she could rake in on the stupidity of the many… (as well as the few who actually have good intentions).
