HOME.

Home”¦ what do you call home & why?

I grew up in Maryland, moved around a bit and ended up in Delaware. I have never claimed Delaware as home, but it has a very strong redeeming quality to me… that is Chad!

Chad born in NJ, lived in DE & MD & back to DE.

We met here, but to find value to this state, well is an endless battle. Chad finds the one asset of no sales tax as a value. Myself, that is not even enough not in comparison to all the downfalls this state & area have.

People ask why are we leaving Delaware? We ask why do you stay? Funny enough their responses are nothing more then because of family. Those who have been to Colorado envy our choice, those who have not are also those who have not been away from the east coast.

I have been up and down the east coast, and while there are some places that are nice to visit, but none that are easy to call home (due to economic or climate reasons). The entire coastal area suffers from the same problem, humidity, humidity makes summers unbearable and winters bitter. Allergies of all kinds are another coastal issue with ragweed, various pollens, molds, and much more. Of the east coast Maine, New Hampshire & North Carolina are states of beauty, all fabulous to visit but economy is the main lacking. Of course for many folks Disney is the place to visit, but again it is a visit thing, living down there is a whole ‘nother situation (humidity, hurricanes, and a myriad of living condition issues.. for some it is heaven or a place they feel at home, but it is by no means a place for all.)

Across the nation there are many states that area great to visit, key word visit. To live in a place, and enjoy it is another thing. So many places suffer from economic issues, climate, beauty (rather lack of), things to do, etc. So many people stay put because they do not know of other places, fear of change or don’t want to stray too far from family. So what people call home and why I find either sad or fascinating?

So why are we calling Colorado home? I can sum it very easily in a recent news event.
On Thanksgiving Day a rock slide punctured I-70 (a major road way.)
Now this area is a distance from where we will be living but it is the attitude that seems consistent throughout Colorado.
A worker on this incident found favor in the fact the road was closed prior to the rock slide due to an overturned beer truck. So no one was injured & no vehicles damaged by the rock slide.
Folks traveling n I-70 had to take a 200 mile detour, but the kindness of folks there shows… one driver gave the workers homemade pound cake & sodas so they would not go hungry on Thanksgiving Day.
Now when a road is closed or detours are created in DE the world comes to an end, a 10 mile detour puts people here to a murderous state of mind. I am among that mindset just from the incredible frustration of driving around DE. Your wheels come to a stop, you literally park on the high way in DE… traffic is insane in DE. It does make people insane. Now of course we have nothing beautiful to enjoy during a traffic jam here, we have the stench from Wilmington or the view of dilapidated housing, boarded up buildings or a variety of lottery and bank card billboards as you sit waiting to move a foot.

So the utter consideration of folks in Colorado, the manners, and the over all attitude is awesome in Colorado. Perhaps because they are in such a beautiful country? I know it made me smile ear to ear as we drove around, you simply just glance around and you can not help but smile!

Another factor is being able to breathe the air and drink the water! They have great restaurants out there, and I have always been indifferent about eating out, but out there the food and service was really great!

I literally can gush on and on about Colorado and am teased about being a recruiter for the state of Colorado, perhaps I am getting pay offs for getting folks to move… you would think so, but I am really that impressed by all we have seen, all the folks we have met and dealt with.. Just completely amazing!!

I had mentioned the no sales tax in Delaware as a value, well along with all the other pluses I mentioned for Colorado, add the property tax is just a fraction as well are so many other living costs, plus houses are far less too!

So Delaware? Now those who struggle to find something about DE they mention the proximity to Philly, DC and the beaches… Ok point one think of the time it takes to travel 10 miles in DE (often can take around an hour).

  • Now the distance between New Castle County to Rehoboth or Dewey Beach in DE or Ocean City MD in around and over 100 miles.. if there are not other cars that would take about 2 ½ hours, with traffic (since the Beach is pretty much the ONLY thing around here people do, so the traffic is absurd) it can take double that or more depending so around 6 hours is not unlikely, and worse not unreal either.
How about DC? Also over 100 miles, about 2 hours in perfect conditions, but something else you can’t count on, so prepare for about 4 hours.
Now Philly is about 50 miles, perfect day about an hour, but don’t count on it, then try to park (HA).
  • So you have these 3 Great places to visit… humm visit, again just to visit, how often do you want to visit DC or Philly? Not to mention to fight that traffic and hope to find a place to park. How about the Beach, ok aside from the insane drive to the Beach, well it is dirty, crowded, and just not a pleasant place to visit. Yup nothing there I will miss.

Home on our way to Home… Home sweet Home Colorado.

I know I am terribly vague huh? I do tend to express what I love and hate, eh??

DE is such a boring dull state overrun by banks. For me I got stuck in DE, for others it is by no means a quest or desire to choose DE, it would be a job transfer… of course that means banks, being banks are the only jobs in DE anymore. This does describe DE perfectly though.. think of the big huge bank card corporations they by all means lack personality, feeling, energy, life, or anything worthwhile.. this describes what has happened to DE.. it has dried up (figuratively speaking) and has lost all life.. i emphasize dried up as figuratively speaking since the horrible humidity is another lovely facet topped by the pollution and horrible allergies..

Yup can’t say there is anything I will miss about this state, aside from a few folks.
