Every once in a while, I hear a story about someone who is a better person than I could ever be.  One that I just stand back in admiration, and wish that I could be even half as good.

This week, I read the story of such a person.

This man lost his entire family in a tragic accident.  I’m sure you’ve heard the story.  Fighter plane crashed into a residential area.  Four people died.  Two extremely young girls, their mother and their grandmother. 

And yet, the sole survivor of this family, the father (Yoon) who was at work when this occurred, is concerned about the pilot who survived the incident.

“I pray for him not to suffer for this action,” Yoon said at a news conference, according to The Los Angeles Times. “I know he’s one of our treasures for our country.”  He further offered hopes that the pilot would not blame himself for this tragedy. 

I don’t know if I could ever be this good.  I can only hope that I don’t have the chance to “prove” myself.  It is so natural and so human to try to blame someone – even if there is truly no one to blame.  And yet we know that, in this world, there are horrible, tragic accidents, where there are no “blamable” people.
