Buy one Hyundai, get one… This is REALLY cool!

Ok wow.. now we have seen GM offer their employee discount (and also scold employees who offered their discount to others.. sigh)… but Buy 1 car get a second for a BUCK! Wow.. wow!

Phil Long Hyundai has twofers, right here in the Chapel Hills Auto Mall.

Strictly speaking, it’s not a two-for-one offer. The second vehicle costs a dollar. More important, you have to buy the top-of-the-line, $35,000 Veracruz, or the Santa Fe or Entourage, priced in the low- to mid-20s. And you’ll pay full sticker price, which is almost unheard of these days. And for the extra buck you’ll get an Accent, Hyundai’s lowest-priced subcompact. And it’ll be a stripped-down, two-door, standard-shift model.
And don’t think you’ll dodge the state’s ownership tax. Bob Becker of the El Paso County Clerk and Recorder’s Office said the annual tax is based on the vehicle’s MSRP adjusted for its age.

Still, the twofer deal is nothing to sneeze at. The base price of an Accent is about $10,000, said Ken Patton, general manager of Phil Long Hyundai. Any customer who wants an automatic transmission or other upgrades can pay the surcharge, he said. And if the customer prefers to plunk down his dollar on a used car of comparable value, Patton will make you a deal.

Naturally there are those fine print items.. the 1st is from their highest priced options (who would pay $35k for a Hyundai.. even though they have passed GM & Chrysler in quality/reliability.. still it is a Hyundai!) the 2nd is their base version Accent..

But this is a great deal for someone who has a teen looking for a car.. they would get a new vehicle (vs.. a potential problematic used vehicle for the same amount).. Or just a second kick-around for cheap.. so it is not all bad, obviously.

(Of course if this was a GM or Chrysler, this offer would be beneficial.. as one car is in the shop, you could drive the back up.. and then just swap ‘em!)…

PLUS.. another idea is DONATE.. get a SIZEABLE write-off! This is a win-win for so many people!

For Hyundai this might bite on their bottom-line.. but also could help them too.. bringing in more people, even if they do not buy then.. they may like what they see and remember it for later. When you consider money lost in most negotiating this may not be a tragic loss there either. They also could make up some loss from the upgrades on that Accent giveaway.

I personally still would not consider a Hyundai, but I also could not be convinced to consider GM or Chrysler either.. or an Audi/VW.. but I always love seeing what each company does (well), and what they do wrong.

I don’t think this is a Hyundai promotion, but a dealership promotion.

On the GM front, I’m happy with my 2006 Chevy Cobalt. It gets decent gas mileage and I have not had any maintenance problems with it. It’s peppy and comfortable to drive. Changing the oil is very easy too.
