New School Set up: k-8

"Too often the report comes out before the work goes in," he said. "And those people lose the anchor of their neighborhood school."

This is not the school district we live in.. but I found this story important for many reasons. My main reason: If it can happen in one school district, it can happen in others.

There are pros & cons to this story… & great points made…

You build a bigger school, you can make it beautiful and there’s still going to be cracks" for children to fall through

So, how hard have the issues been looked at that plague the school, the score & attendance?

"Don’t close schools when you should be changing staff."

I have had bad teachers way too often.. even in college. How well are the teachers evaluated? Or are they at all? It is very easy for the teachers to give good grades and or pass a child.. does that mean the kids are actually learning, or were eligible to pass to the next grade? I have personally seen way too many people who were passed to the next grade when they should not have.. as well as too many who graduated high school who should not have. School is way too easy.. why do they keep lowering the standards? Why do they keep dumbing it down? Why do they play to the lowest common denominator? It is all to keep a school running and for teachers to keep their jobs.. they need to stop mixing politics into it.. they need to look at what is important.. that is the kids, our future!

The plan… to kill off some of the elementary and middle schools and make k-8 schools. Now aside from the issues and questions of the article.. that is one thing I do agree with a k-8 school. It should keep kids from “growing up too fast”. It should allow more community into the school. It would be good for the older all the way to the younger kids. So I do see some strong positives to it.

Is there anyone out there who has experienced the k-8 set up.. what is your opinion?
