Messed Up Middle East

Upside the Pakistan Police raided this atrocity and arrested the sicko who was officiating! … BUT
As I read this story.. 100 guests.. there were 100 people there supporting the marriage between a 7 & 5 year old?? What the heck is wrong with those people? What is wrong with the parents who allowed this? Their reasoning.. to remedy a family feud.. oh come-on.. Like marrying a pair of small children will fix what ails them!
PLUS.. most marriages are not recognized unless consummated.. how would a 5 & 7 year old consummate their marriage??? And since it is unlike they could or would.. the marriage would not be recognized or legal. So what the heck were they thinking????
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — Police raided a wedding between a 7-year-old boy and a 5-year-old girl in Pakistan’s largest city, arresting the Muslim cleric officiating at the ceremony and the children’s parents, a senior officer said Friday.
The cleric had not yet begun the ceremony in Karachi, which was attended by 100 guests, said deputy superintendent of police Malik Mazhar.
Pakistan law allows marriage under 18 to those who have reached puberty, well no doubt a 5 and 7 year old would by no means have reach puberty… but when I do think about how young girls are reaching this point, I cringe.. for so many reasons!
Pakistan law forbids marriage below the age of 18, but some Muslim scholars say it is permissible if the bride and groom have reached puberty.
TV footage showed both children in traditional wedding clothes in the laps of policemen after the raid, the girl with tears running down her cheeks.
The parents said the wedding had been arranged to end an eight-year feud between the two families, according to a report on Express News TV.
Mazhar said he had heard about similar cases in rural areas but "it is shocking to have this right in the center of the city."
The parents would be brought before a court on Saturday, he said.
So, for messing up their kids.. and putting them in such a situation… the parents maximum punishment.. ONE MONTH in jail and a fine of around $10.. seriously? This is another reason the Middle East is a disturbing, backwards, scary place!
A Pakistan Human Rights Commission official, Hina Gillani, said the maximum possible punishment for the parents was one month in jail and a fine of just over $10.
This story just sickened me and made me glad I do not live in such a place, I pity those who do! I am always amazed how there are countries caught in such a time warp.. in not just technology, clothing, lifestyle.. but in beliefs.. and more than lifestyle but literally how they live! I guess anytime we need to study history, and we have the guts & a gun.. we could visit living history in the Middle East eh?
