Meat eaters vs Vegans

I have joked about the insanity of diehard vegans.. that the lack of meat was rotting or shrinking their brains..
I found this neat story discussing how the intelligence (ie inventing new tools, and were more advanced) of our ancestors increased dramatically when they introduced cooked meat to their diet.
About 2 million years ago, the human brain rapidly increased its mass until it was double the size of other primate brains.
“This happened because we started to eat better food, like eating more meat,” said researcher Philipp Khaitovich of the Partner Institute for Computational Biology in Shanghai.
…we probably should avoid diving into the raw food movement. Devoted followers end up, said Khaitovich, “with very severe health problems.”

I’ve been a vegetarian (not a vegan) for almost twenty years, and I’ve heard these arguments before. There are no health detriments to a vegetarian or vegan diet. There are plenty of health detriments to a diet high in meat.
Our brains did grow when we switched to a meat diet, but not because there is some magic brain-building power in meat. It’s because meat is a rather concentrated source of calories, which allowed our ancestors to involve themselves in a wide variety of pursuits besides the pursuit of roots and berries.
That said, I don’t think intelligent folk like you and Chad object to what other people choose to eat. I think you object to when those folks try to give you crap over what you choose to eat. Being a vegetarian or vegan does not equal being a jerk, though. Just like most groups, it’s the noisy minority that make it tough on the rest. :)

and yet you missed that i said “diehard vegans”..
the ones who protest everything, and think humans are the scurge of the earth… you know the breed?

I guess the word "diehard" means something different to each of us. :)
