A Simpler Time…

in the late afternoon on Saturday, the 30th of August 2008 by Tina

It was the opening line of the article that made me die of laughter (and of course one of the reasons we fled the liberal east coast)…

Besides making fun of Democrats, is there a more popular pastime in Colorado Springs

The covenants which still hold onto racists times led to this part of the article.. which gave me such a cartoon image I thought I would definitely die of laughter…

Barack Obama [spit] would be welcome as long as he was toting iced tea for a homeowner, or driving Miss Daisy or whistling “Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah” and battling Brer Rabbit.

Seriously I am not a racist by any means.. (I do not object to Obama [spit] for race.. I object to him because he is an idiot, does not have have the experience to be president.. and because well.. he is an idiot!) but this article is comical.. and for there to once been a time that people were prevented to live some place because of race, or go to a certain schools etc.. that is sad.

Now the Brer Rabbit.. that brought up a memory for my hubby, he loved that movie.. and because someone found it to be racist it has been banned. Now for those who banned it, thinking it is a racist movie.. they should allow this movie just for the reason to remember history, history should never been forgotten or erased.. regardless if it is ugly or not.

If people look deep enough into ANYTHING they can find something ugly or insulting.. of course that goes the other way too.. if they look deep enough they can either find something favorable or something they can learn from. So rather than whitewash history, distort history or erase history.. remember it, for all the good & bad! Learn from the bad and celebrate the good! Radical idea huh?

As a person who loves mythology (thanks to Joseph Campbell and — more recently — Neil Gaiman), I want to mention that the Brer Rabbit stories are NOT racist; they are West African mythology that was (for lack of a better term) translated into English. The author did not write them; he wrote them down after having heard them from an old man, a former slave. This so-called racist set of stories is, in fact, part of the African-American heritage. And it’s beautiful stuff.

Thank you for the info on the story.. i never thought they were racist.. but there was a group who did.. and banned the story.. which is a blemish to their history.. someone should have fought for the story.. perhaps it is not too late?
