Damned If You Do

And just as damned if you don’t.
VENTURA, California — The family of a gay teenager who was fatally shot in class blames the school district for allowing their son to wear makeup and feminine clothing to school — factors the family claims led to the death.
I guess the only question here is: Would the damages awarded against the school district be more for allowing the teenager to dress in drag, or would the damages be worse for discriminating against the teen for not allowing him to dress in drag.
That is probably the question that needs to be answered from the school district’s legal advisors. Considering common sense is obviously nonexistent now. I’m sure the answer will soon be that all students and parents need ironclad signed waivers of immunity to simply attend school. And since attendance is required, you don’t have a choice in signing.

The parents are suing the school for “allowing” their son to dress in drag with makeup. Seems to me that the burden falls on the parents, who allowed their son to leave the house like that.
I think that this is yet another example of parents who want the schools to do the “dirty work”. They expect the school to be the moral authority. I guess the parents want to be cool and understanding, and they secretly hope that the school is the “meanie” who will enforce the rules.

Now didn’t I make a betwith someone on this happening… parents were demanding their boys dress as girls, and soon it was going to come back to slap them.. and wa-la.. i said it was going to make matters worse, how much worse could it have been right?
so kid killed for dressing in drag… who would have expected that couldhappen? I did…
and yes katie.. the parents should have been attentive to their kid.. obviously they did not, shock (that never happens)still i do not think they should sue the school for the behavior of their child.
and i think you hit the nail on the head.. the parents were dish rags who expected the school to play bad guy. since discipline has been taken away from schools (and parents) theycertainly could not play bad guy if they wanted to.. of course being california they definitely could not!
