This ain’t no fantasy!

Orson Scott Card, of sci-fi fame, has an opinion piece about Fox News. He goes into detail about how deaf, dumb, and blind the liberal media establishment is. He uses detailed analysis of several news stories picked at random from a random newspaper. And shows how biased the stories are towards the left. One example:

In a story on Donald Rumsfeld’s remarks to the graduating class at West Point, here is the lead paragraph: “Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld, making no mention of the prisoner abuse scandal that has led to calls for his ouster, told a cheering crowd of graduating cadets Saturday that they will help win the global fight against terror.”

Whats the bias in that? Well, compare that to this hypothetical lead item:

“Senator Hillary Clinton, making no mention of the $100,000 she once made by trading cattle futures with astonishing perfection, told a cheering crowd of activists that President Bush’s globalist economic policy is hurting poor people in other countries and costing American jobs.”

This story would never ever appear in any paper. But it has exactly the same construction as the first lead. While technically true, the initial story could have read, “Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld, making no mention of the super serum formula that created Captain America, told a cheering crowd of graduating cadets Saturday that they will help win the global fight against terror.” This would also be technically true. And while my example is ridiculous, at least I admit that it is irrelevant.
I think they key indicator that Fox News truly is closest to the center is that they will run more stories. Items that the mainline media would ignore because they may be damaging to the left are completely ignored by CNN, but ran by Fox. However any story that is potentially influential towards leftist politics is picked up everywhere, including Fox.
Thats just the way it is. Read the article. Facts are hard to deny, unless you’re deaf, dumb, and blind. Like the media.
Thanks to VodkaPundit for finding this story!
