safer on a Plane than a Bus!

This bus company is appalling. While the Reverend says he does not cast blame, I am sorry but I do in this case! (most of the following bullets came directly from the article).
- The front right tire was retreaded, it blew out. The tread had become separated from the tire! While it is legal to retread tires, “it is not on the axle that steers the bus.”
- The bus operator (Iguala BusMex Inc, Houston) applied in June for a federal license to operate as a charter… still waiting approval.
- Iguala Bus Mex filed incorporation papers, listing the same owner & address as Angel Tours Inc. Angel Tours, was forced by federal regulators to take its vehicles out of interstate service June 23, after an unsatisfactory review.
- Neither entity is authorized to operate as an interstate carrier.
So this company is not allowed to cross state lines, because they have failed its reviews, and I think we can see why.
If you opt for a charter bus, make sure they are reviewed and everything is up to date. I wonder if this group was just bargain shopping? What a sad bargain.
I also wonder if the other deadliest bus incident has any connection to the same company?
The tragedy was the nation’s deadliest bus crash since 2004, when 15 people were killed in a wreck in Arkansas on their way to Mississippi’s casinos. In 2005 near Dallas, 23 people were killed when a bus carrying nursing home residents away from Hurricane Rita caught fire while in bumper-to-bumper traffic.
Here is the Arkansas 2004 incident, and I love this quote… hum so rollovers are rare so it is not necessary, I guess the family members of the 15 who died above would agree eh?
Adding seat belts would require redesigning the seats, NHTSA spokesman Rae Tyson said. Structural improvements might be more effective. “A rollover in a bus is a relatively rare occurrence,” Tyson said. “Our approach for all bus safety is to make the compartment a primary means of protection.”
Here is a follow up to the above article, love this part (who is inspecting these Buses, the blind??)
After the bus crash in Arkansas, investigators said they found cracks in the vehicle’s rear frame rails that likely existed before the wreck.
