The White House has been briefed on something about Mars.

It would appear that the US President has been briefed by Phoenix scientists about the discovery of something more "provocative" than the discovery of water existing on the Martian surface.

What does "provocative" mean anyway? I mean, water was just confirmed a few days ago. Maybe they’ve found the aliens finally. What could possibly be so important that there is a presidential briefing instead of simply giving out a news conference?

Now there will be all the predictable comments out there going on and on about how the "backwards religious types can’t handle the life on another planet" and such. Just shows how little creativity there truly is and is probably simply projection of their own prejudice.
