Teen Pregnancy Glamorized

Spotted this item, and need to talk about it.
Teens and how being a teen-mom is now obviously being glamorized. Read the article… kids are really getting the wrong message! They have an out.. giving up their child, either via abortion or adoption… or if they keep it, it is a great accessory and fun! They do not see abortion or adoption as an issue, and they apparently have no idea they can catch a disease!
What about disease… where did this message go? How on earth does this message miss kids? How can we make sure they get the message? They need to know about the risks.. and the risk of disease not just pregnancy! The pregnancy aspect needs to cease being glorified!
How about the new show with Molly Ringwald, as the mom of a pregnant teen? I have only seen previews of this… and from the previews, I have no desire to see it. It definitely seems they missed the bigger picture on this show. They had a great opportunity to help girls, they could go into the dangers of sex, the problems with teen pregnancy, the risks… but they skipped all that, they skipped right to the teen being pregnant. Just like all the other media garbage out there that glorifies pregnancy… and how celebrities have these new accessories (babies).
The article link of course mentions Jamie Lynn Spears.. another pregnant teen, and I worry girls are going to look to her as a role model.. I hope otherwise.
What happened to when it was wrong to be a pregnant teen? What happened to when it was wrong to (be a girl) who had sex as a teen? Teens need to learn self-control & self-respect! I had no respect for the girls who had sex as teens. I knew girls who got pregnant in high school and either gave up their babies or dropped out of school. I knew other girls that I am very sure caught things from how much hopping around they did.
So, do schools no longer have a health class? Although, I do recall having health class in school, and sex and the risks were never discussed. There should be a class that goes over the risks of sex! Yes, it would be wonderful if parents would discuss this with their kids… but did your parents do that? I can tell you mine certainly did not. My mother was a registered nurse, my father a fire-officer… and sex was never discussed, thankfully I found reading medical books fun. I think every kid should have to read those medical books, they would scared senseless to have sex!
Teen Pregnancy, Hollywood Style
Once taboo, pregnant teenagers are popping up more frequently on TV, in movies and on magazine covers. The problem? This latest pop-culture coverage doesn’t show what comes before or after.
