More Than an Old Piece of Paper

mid-afternoon on Friday, the 4th of July 2008 by Chad

The Declaration of Independence.

On this fine July 4, 2008 we celebrate by displaying this photograph of the original Declaration of Independence. If you look at the original document today, the thing you notice is that the words have become faded, and are barely readable.

Unfortunately, these words have not just faded on the document, but have faded in our lives, our hearts, and our culture. These words that burned in the hearts of our Founding Fathers have become almost forgotten today. I invite you to join me today in reading and renewing in our hearts the powerful words that were the birth of our country.

I’ve read a ton of web sites today.  This post captured for me the frustration I’ve felt for so long.

I try every single day to be a Citizen.  To look inward and outward and to always try to do the right thing.  To remember the responsibilities, not simply the rights.

Remarkable statement.. and sadly true, how the words that createdthis nation are becoming faded in reality. People need to buck up and realize what we have lost.. and what we will lose.
Like the post about Britian and their scary embracing of Diversity… while understanding other cultures is always a good thing (as in, of course.. know thy enemy) it doesnot mean you need to like, respect, or honor them. I think this is a fact that is escaping people. People have gotten too afraid of everything.. and this fear is dangerous on more levels than is imaginable.
Please people lets remember why we are Americans.. and what America stands for.. lets stop letting other countries tell us how we should do things, what languages we should speak, what religions we should accept, what wars we should fight. we should stop giving hand outs to all the gimmies (that is within and outside of our borders.. welfare needs to GO!) This used to be a nation of strong, proud people.. now people are weaking and bending over at will.. stop it now! Stand up.. for ONCE!
