Environmentalists are crippling our country

terribly early in the morning on Thursday, the 15th of May 2008 by Katie

In the past two days our government has been working hard (OK, hardly working) to save their environmentally friendly behinds. In doing so, they have thrown all of us under the bus (again).

The big “wonderful” news was that they have voted to stop adding oil to our strategic reserve. Evidently, they have enough votes to override a veto (yes, Obama [spit] and Clinton actually came to Washington to get their meaningless votes added). And once again, this is only a temporary “fix” if that. Because once the reserve is depleted, then oil costs will return to pre-reserve-depletion prices. Oh, and we will not have any reserve oil, in case we have an actual emergency. But, politicians being the mindless drones that they are, fail to notice / realize / care about this…

The news that has been “hidden” largely in the news is a second vote that they took. I guess that the Senate wanted this vote to be taken quickly, before any of those nasty constituents got wind of it (ie those nasty constituents really went crazy over their pro-illegals legislation and really botched that up for them). So, our Senators voted to once again, disallow drilling in ANWR. The measure was killed by 4 votes.

The problem is, is that the only realistic longterm solution is for our country to get the our oil out of our land. There is no reason that our money should be going to fund dictators bent on our destruction. Our hard earned money could be going to our countries’ oil, funding jobs in our country, providing wages in our country, which would then again have those workers spending money in our country.

How can our country survive if we are going to continue to liberally fund other countries who are bent on our destruction?

I think we’re missing the point here.

The true elephant in the living room about this issue is not that we’re not drilling enough within our own territories, it’s that we don’t have the refining capacity to process what we can pull out of the ground. Bear in mind that no new refining facilities have been built in this country for 30 years, and existing facilities have not been allowed to expand to accommodate increased volume.

The ANWR question is a red herring. The studies the environutties had been presenting as “evidence” of the harm new drilling and pipeline capacity would inflict on the Alaskan environment have been exposed as fraudulent. Data actually obtained from studies of the environmental effects of the Alaskan Pipeline conducted since the Pipeline’s completion have revealed that in contrast to the theory that the Pipeline would have extraordinarily deleterious effects on the wildlife in the area, the opposite has occurred. Populations of the flora and fauna in the area have grown, and those migratory animals which had avoided the pipeline during (and sometime after) its construction have returned and prospered.

**That** is what I blame the environutties for — the presentation of false evidence to promote their own agenda, fearmongering the rest of us into compliance with their goals. The problem here is that their continued falsification of data to support their agenda sheds doubt on all research conducted regarding the environment. People who are more interested in their grant money than in the actual quest for true answers should be exposed as the frauds they are and dealt with — in the scientific community as well as the general populace — appropriately.

I totally agree that we need to improve this country’s refining capabilities. It is incredible to think that we have not built a refinery since the 70’s (I believe ‘76 to be exact - so we haven’t had a new one since Ford left office). Our demand has certainly increased since then.
But, I do also believe that we need to start drilling in ANWR. From what I understand, it will take 10 years to get it “online”. So, I think that we need to start now. If we wait until we are grasping at the last straw, we will be SOL. The really ironic thing is that just over 10 years ago, the Senate voted to drill in ANWR, and Clinton vetoed it. (Don’t we ever learn?)
And, I think we need to get the oil out of the Gulf. From what I’ve read, Cuba is now slant drilling into our reserve. Basically sucking our oil out with a straw, while our hands are tied by the environmentalist wackos. Why they seem to think it is perfectly OK for Cuba to steal our oil, yet so morally wrong for US to do the same, I will never comprehend.
And as you have kindly reminded us all, even if we were swimming in oil right now, we wouldn’t be able to put it in our tanks, because we don’t have the capacity to refine the stuff.
But, all I’m able to do is whine about it online, because my state representatives are all environmentally friendly morons….
