Then you’ll love this link. Its concept sketches for the live action movie which hopefully will come to fruition. Although I’m not sure how they’ll take 14-15 hours of source and cut it down to 2 1/2 hours, I’m still looking forward to it. Effects are to be done by the same team that has done Lord of the Rings. So it should be decent.

Except for one small point. They’re apparently changing the names. And one is absolutely horrible: Misato Katsuragi = Susan Whitnall. Gag!

Overall, I believe that the Eva movie will be pretty good but I hate that their changing the names (like Asuka to Kate Rose). I just hope that they don’t change the character’s personalities. The fans like the characters for who the are, no one wants to see Rei acting spunky or Misato being weak minded. I just hope it’s something that Gainax can be proud of. (Also, I heard a rumor that Hillary Duff will be Asuka and Elysia Wood will be Shinji, is that true?)

The names would be bad enough, but you’re right. If the personalities change, the movie is doomed.
As for who is playing what, I’m not sure yet, but a lot of sites on the internet are taking suggestions as to who plays what. Maybe the rumour came from one of those sites. Although those are good suggestions!

Omg Hillary Duff as Asuka? kick her out man no way she can play as Asuka. i may be complaining about this but my sis is rejoicing n she doesn’t even like anime. get someone else. all Asian actors plse. n make it in japaneses with sub. or better yet just make it an anime!!!!!!!

OH PLEASE GOD NO! Hillary duff can’t play Asuka. She couldn’t act her way out of a mime’s box! And she’s a shallow moron to top it off! None of the character sketches come even close to capturing the essence of the characters! And none of the chosen actors could even begin to play the part of the characters let alone capture their essence! They all look like highly paid fags, spazs, idiots, morons, etc. etc. This Anime is all about symbolism. If you don’t capture the essence of the characters you’ve killed the whole Damn thing! GAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!

You know they change every thing about the plot into an more consumer friendly version.

Ah hell then you’ll have these fucking teeny trendy shows who’ll hype it as somthing great but they have never even see the orignal anime.And they turn it into one of those trendy movies for all those brainless sheep who follow watever is cool at the moment.Fuck then they’ll come up to you at work or school and say somthing like “hey have you seen that eva movie it’s so cool I like the scene were the robot rips the gaint monster thingy in halve.Oh and hillary duff is so hot.”
and i’ll sit there dying an little more each time they say somthing.

Fuck If you are an evangelion fan you will not go and watch this.Sit outside the movie theater and pelt every one who go’s to watch it with eggs.

Mind you maby if we are lucky they may make it into somthing viewable.But don’t get your hopes up.

An Evangelion live-action movie? Sounds interesting does’nt it? And with Weta doing the effects we can be sure that they will take great care with the portrayal of this project. I mean, look what they did with LOTR.
As far as the characters go, I would agree that changing the persona’s of Shinji and Co. would ruin this film altogether, but if this film is going to be cast with white caucasians, then names such as Shinji Ikari would seem pretty out of place. However this is not the issue that should be drawing our attention.
The problem the director (yet to be found) will have with this film, is depicting the subtle changes and directions the characters psychies will move in. Dont forget that this anime was strongly centered around these teenagers as well as developing an immense plot. This movie, if succesful will make way for a second, because there is no way they could fit it all into two and a half hours (either that or it becomes a live action adaptation of Death and Rebirth). Plus they cant just have the start. There has to be an end. I want to see Third Impact, re-enacted in glorious CG.
I feel we should give our support to this. Its what we all want deep inside. And if it does’nt work out then what have we lost? Some cash? Two hours of our lives? Nothing important.
But remember this. You can just go home and watch the anime again, and act like it never happend.

Lets see shall we?

Just so you all know, I’ve been looking up stuff for this movie. I saw a recent (May 2006) interview video with Richard Taylor, who works for Weta. He said that the characters names will not be changed. Asuka, Shinji, Rei, and Misato will all be Asuka, Shinji, Rei, and Misato. Apparently, the names on the concept art pics are actually the costume designers or something like that. Keep in mind that I just read this on a website somewhere. I also read that on Rei’s plug suit, if you look closely, the name Rei Ayanami is on her arm. I haven’t seen it though. Also, it was stated in another recent interview that they desire to use 14-year-old Asians. This is to help the movie succeed better in an international market. Weta commented strongly that they wanted to remain as close to the source material as possible. Also, whether or not they do the entire saga depends on how well this movie does. If it does well, there will be more. If it fails, the story will end wherever they leave off. And it was confirmed that Hillary Duff will not be Asuka. In fact, there is no cast yet, but as stated earlier, they want Asian teens to play the roles. So don’t worry about Harry Potter sitting in an Eva or Lizzy Maguire doing her makeup in the Unit 02’s cockpit mirror.

This whole thing looks like it will turn out to be very interesting.

Wait until 2:01, then pause it. You will have to look closely. The words are blurry, but if you look closely enough, you will see “Rei Ayanami” on her left arm. This is on the dark part of the plug suit. Remember that, HER left arm. You can also see NERV in red letters just above it.

Also, for people complaining about the art not representing the characters, keep in mind that the art is mainly to showcase plugsuit designs. (Misato’s mullet = gross)

And no director = no script & no casting director = no cast.

I just want to calm some of you down. I have seen “Movie trailers” for the live action eva if you watch closely and you know your movies you’ll see that alot of the trailer is spliced together from other movies. For example: There is a scene where six people are sitting around a nerv symbol in a white room. That is from Matrix reloaded, when Neo’s ship comes into port! They just added a nerv symbol. So relax it maybe different from what you think. AND HILLARY DUFF AS ANYONE?! GIVE THE PEOPLE OF GINAX A LITTLE CREDIT, JEEZ!

They won’t change the names(at least not likely),there is no cast to the film yet,they’d like to work with a mostly Japanese cast,the Children will be played by 14 yr old actors,the creators are taking the project very seriously,and 99% of that you can hear about the film are stupid rumors by smartass “fans” and fat teen computer maniacs.

The names on the artwork are those of who drew them. They won’t change their names. I heard that aparantly ADV or Weta (Can’t remember who) got 100 million dollars for this movie, even though it hasn’t been green lit. Visit eva.trivialbeing.net for more info.
