The year is 1907, one hundred years ago……
Theodore Roosevelt’s ideas on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN in 1907.
“In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person’s becoming in every facet an American and nothing but an American…There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn’t an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag… We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language… and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.”

Why don’t you invent your own language, so as not to profane English with your bigotry.
We in the CIVILISED countries have made bigotry a crime, England and Her children speak English, but if the visitor, guest or resident is happy speaking something else, why, there is room in our hearts for that too. When YOU visit England, does any good man make you feel less welcome, because you can’t speak clearly, have an accent and a limited volcaburary?. If you went to live there, would any civil person expect you to file the harsh edges off your vowels?.
Hey, America, you are turning from the respected and admired friend of the world, into a bent and twisted enemy that lies to HIMSELF about things, and sends his Colon Powells along to lie to his friends to justify himself. I am fourty years old. When I was a child, anyone who said Americans . . AMERICANS ! . . . would work themselves around to justifying torture and kidnapping, would have been treated as a deranged person. The light of the world has gone out, and a murderous thug is holding the smoldering torch.

Hum, civilzed yet England/Europe are being pretty much over taken by the extreme Muslim terrorists. Looks like that plan is working over there huh? If that is civilized I would rather be a barbarian!

That was an infantile reply, Tina.
I truly hope your opinions have changed in the last two years.
There’s been no “taking over” of Europe, and the only place that seems to have been pushed around was our country. The enemy wins when you begin to hate your neighbor, and shun your own allies. They beat you for sure.
Tony, please don’t judge us based on our more ignorant peoples, as a country I feel we are moving forward again finally.
I agree with some of that past president’s ideals, but they are also extremely old fashioned. The global culture developing is multilingual, and of many creeds. We have room for every language we care to speak.
Our loyalties should truly lie with the rock we call home.
It’s interesting to travel back in time. But a bit depressing.
