Microsoft Vista

So, Vista is out on MSDN today, so I thought I’d download and install it. I had to reinstall my primary system anyways, since it has been getting a little slow.
The install was choppy, kept failing, until I figured out that the plugs going in to my SATA drive just weren’t staying in place. Out with the SATA, in with an older EIDE.
After that, the install was quick and painless. Figuring out where everything is will be the primary challenge. But I have it joined to the domain, on a wireless network, with Office 2007 and all, and everything is behaving itself. Of course, I turned off the dreaded admin prompts and things are just about perfect. It looks pretty slick too.
Of course, it did tell me my video card blows chunks. But its tough finding a half height AGP8X dual head card that has very high performance…

I had similar problem with the install but I think the features are well worth it. The feature that I like the best is the backup. Since what the backup does is create a Virtual Image of the computer. So, if the computer fails or I want to test something in my computer, I just use the Virtual Image instead of the real machine! I also like the like the Sidebars although I can see already filling my desktop with a bunch of these. The other feature that I like is the search capabilities. The Windows Flip is pretty cool but need some memory and good video card. Any way, I will keep playing and see how it goes.

So what’s the general consensus right now? Love it or hate it?

So far, I do really like it. I need to order a new system to take full advantage of it next year, but I think overall its better than XP. I think I’m pretty darn happy with it…
