Bonfire of the brands

mid-morning on Tuesday, the 29th of August 2006 by Chad

Neil Boorman at the BBC NEWS has had all he can stand…

We are surrounded by myriad brands, flashing neon signs, billboards, labels on our heads, feet and bodies, and the objects we hold in our hands. But what happens when one man tries to live without them?

No more “brand awareness” for him.  He’s going generic in his life, which is a good thing.

Basically I feel the same way, but there are a few brands that I do respect, if only because there is a noticable quality difference.

Honda, Columbia, and Coca Cola.  Nike is good, only because their shoes last, not because they’re generally frickin’ ghetto ugly anymore.

Can’t for the life of me right now think of any other brands I *must* have over any others… I get my clothes at Walmart and Kohls.  I have no problem buying the grocery store brand food.

What brands are worth buying above all else?  And for what other reason other than “its the in thing” or something stupid like that?
