Caffeine Poll
in the late afternoon on Thursday, the 29th of December 2005 by Chad
Wow, I can’t believe that up to this point, with all the votes, more people roast their own coffee than anything.
What I find more amazing is that no one admits to brewing drip coffee out of a can of Folger’s or the like. That’s just crazy!

Since there’s no option for my scenario…
Espresso/Latte…BUT…make ‘em at home…sometimes grind…sometimes preground espresso.

I think that falls under the 6$ fru fru drink in general… definitely the latte.
Now, expresso, done right, I can respect that. Not out of one of the machines that take a degree in engineering to operate, but made in the good old Italian methods. When ordering a coffee in Italy it’s espresso, not expresso. Both will quicken your heart rate, but an expresso is a fast train and an espresso is a small cup of very strong coffee.

Thanks for reminding me!
My last batch (four days old) is just about out.
If I want a cappucino tomorrow morning, I had better roast this evening.
My current batch of green beans is six months old and dwindling fast. I need to contemplate my needs for the next few months.
All decisions should be this relevant!

Here’s how it is for me… Keep in mind that I’m relegated to an 8×30 trailer with 1.5 square feet of counter space, so my REAL espresso machine (Rancilio Silvia) is at the office along with the Rancilio Rocky grinder.
I roast what I need at the office in our shop so the smoke doesn’t offend. I roast a double batch of Sweet Maria’s Liquid Gold blend for espresso at the office. Actually, I do a couple of cappucinos each morning, maybe three.
For home, I have Solis Maestro grinder. At the shop, I roast up either Sweet Maria’s PNG Kimel or Smith Farms Kona, and I bring the beans home to the grinder. I grind those fresh and do a French press full for a 12-ounce mug…
Nope, doesn’t take an engineering degree to get good coffee from th Silvia, just the same amount of care as you’d expect to produce a good meal… And I can beat six dollars worht of Starbux with my eyes closed…

My problem here is the altitude… water boils at around 197, which makes it very tight. I haven’t had any espresso since I moved, but I have been wanting some for a while. I’ll have to ask around!
