Wind Farms Generate Controversy

in the late afternoon on Wednesday, the 20th of August 2003 by Scott

It always amazes me how hypocritical people can be - especially the liberal elite. Check out this article on Fox News.

“I’m very concerned about a private developer’s plans to build an industrial energy complex across 24 square miles of publicly owned land, Walter Cronkite says in a commercial he filmed imploring viewers to Save Our Sound.”

Walter Cronkite opposed the war in Iraq. Wind power would reduce American reliance on foreign oil. Therefore one would think that Cronkite would support such an environmentally and socially conscious plan. But he doesn’t.

Why? Because the facility will sit on the horizon off Cape Cod - where Cronkite lives. Last I checked Cronkite hasn’t taken his house off the electrical grid. So he is powering that house with energy generated in someone else’s backyard from a place that is being liberated and protected by American soldiers in an operation Cronkite opposed.

Cronkite may have become a near-mythological figure in today’s media - but his actions prove that he is human - and more hypocritical than most of us.

NIMBY rules once again. Wind power is all the rage in Europe, so why isn’t our elite rushing to install windmills on every street corner. I just don’t get it. I support alternative power. Being conservative does not mean you are beholden to big business, or the oil companies, or anyone else. Windfarms are about the only alternative power that actually works as advertised from what I’ve heard. and they’re not belching smoke, or anything really ugly. In fact, they’re not bad looking in that high tech sort of way.
Maybe I’ve been staring across the river at the Salem Nuclear Plant belching steam too long. But its supposed to be 6 miles off the coast. I really don’t think they’ll be seeing much at that distance. These windmills aren’t three thousand foot tall or anything.
But thats the entire point. Our elite is way too elite. They would be the first to call a bunch of poor people ignorant for not allowing this to be built in a working class area. Hypocritical does nail it. Why isn’t the earth first movement out protesting the Cronkite and the others that are blocking this?

In the past year I’ve read several articles from across the country where conservation groups and naturists are up in arms about these solar energy farms…

It seems the consensus is that builders want to put them in the most efficient places… high wind zones… a large portion of which are owned by the government in protected historic areas, like national parks and several scenic mountain areas.

The big fuss is because these hypocrits don’t want the beautiful view they have, disturbed by a solar energy farm.

Personally… which would you rather have… a cooling tower from a nuclear plant? a smokestack from a coal or oil burning plant? Or a bunch of clean and quiet windmills… heck, It wouldn’t suprise me if they could build the windmills to look more traditional without hurting performance… then it would just enhance the view…

aah.. it drives me nuts… i concur wholeheartedly…
