If it were up to me, there would not be any Christmas decorations in malls until after Thanksgiving.

And then they would be huge, honkin' CHRISTMAS decorations. They would not be blue snowflakes. They would not be politically correct, by any stretch of the imagination.

They would be like the ones when I was a kid. Big scenes. Moveable "characters". Something exciting to see when you were a kid. Singing scenes. Something worth the trip to get there. Something that would be as much a "destination" as the stores themselves (like when I was a kid) There would be kids rides in the middle of the mall. None of those stupid keyosks.

And the day after Christmas - the Christmas sound track would be off. I hate listening to Christmas carols in March.

Oh, and no Merry Christmahhanakwanzika. EVER.

It blows my mind that people could and would do that.. and that there would be organizations to help it happen! What the heck is wrong with people!

perhaps we could go to a fingerprint voting system.. touch screen.. that each day would process the votes and compare the prints... any duplicateswould rejected. That would be a possible way to eliminate this HUGE dishonestly issue!

I can only hopethat they sort through this an correct this problem before election day.. andthat this alters any hope Obama has..

the upside is.. doesn't everyone know what a nutjob Farrakhan is? So his support for Obamaa should be a bad thing, right??? (I can hope, right?)

and does that dimwit think that racism is souly a product of the USA? that we hold the sole ownership of that? Sure racism is wrong.. but not every american is a racist.. and not every american is innocent either.. but in the same case.. look to every country on this planet.. are they all embracing, colorblind.. and welcoming of all religions.. humm look to the terrorists.. do you think they are free of racism, and welcoming to other religions & cultures.. I think farrakhan needs to hang outthere fora while, and see what a place with issues with culture, race & religion is REALLY like!

seriously.. gotta wonder what her life is/was like for this to be a tipping point to send her to the drug dispensers.. what a nut job.
and to ruin her social life.. was all she had going her hair color? seriously that is so sad/pathetic & shallow! if people judged her solely on her hair color and socialized only because of her hair color what a sad life!
sure hair dyes are difficult to really tell when they arein the bottle.. they all have a dark color, even the light colors.. but if she read the directions they ALWAYS tellyou to do a test patch.. to determine the time you will color and if the desired shade is correct.. so again her fault.
the article just craked me up and made me feel sorry for such a pathetic being!

There was a recent article in the Guardian that seemed to sum up the tragedy of Sarah Palin and how she intersects with American politics perfectly. The article begins with the appropriate assertion that in assessing her performance in the debate, they can think of few responsible democracies where a candidate would be allowed to state, as Palin did, "I'm not necessarily going to answer all of your questions but focus on -- om -- duh -- you know the American people."

This simply isn't the rules of the debate. A candidate is there to discuss issues -- she didn't.

When she tried to -- without insulting her intelligence or education -- she comes across as having made just one basic accomplishmnet of having one coherent sentence together. When she says, "gosh Joe, there you go, going negative, you know, but your wife, she's like a teacher, so I guess for her it's heaven, but in the meantime, we've got to get down to the nitty gritty that war is scary, so there are hockey moms like me...." she just comes across as a mess of incoherence.

What can we say. The McCain administration has gone mad and is mobilizing reallyl ugly feelings. Their "rallies" are turning into racist hate gatherins. Show me a sane independent voter who wants to watch a mob.

Face it guys, Sarah is a small slice of history waiting to become a footnote, if that.

I was dyin' the other day when I read this article. Too funny.

For one thing, if she is really "blonde" why the die job? But to say that her social life is ruined because she is a brunette is hysterical. And it left her so distraught that she needed to go on meds? Wow, if that is the "major" trauma in her life, she sounds like she has it pretty easy.

I would think that you could tell by the color of the dye that it was not a blonde dye. Wouldn't it be darker? But then, she is a blonde, so I guess we can't expect "deep thought" from her.

when i read a bio on him his behavior as well his talents make sense.. he had a screwed up childhood.. and obviously never resolved it.. instead has worked on destroying himself..it is sad.. but i see that so much.. people who are given alot of suffering tend to be the ones given the most amazing gifts..
Thank you so much for sharing that gem.. my wierd al mind was looking for a parody of it somewhere in the video (grin)..

Typical of the two candidates, even to things this trivial: McCain has substance, Obama just doesn't.

That was awesome Katie & thank you..
I definitely understand why alot of people want/need a viewing.. in my family they were not common.. mainly due to how a person died or appeared at their death.. the viewings I did see were pretty sick.. they looked wrong.. to me. it is a combo of the filler (in the face) the make up.. etc..

I love how your family treated the casket as a time-capsule.. that was really sweet.. and the baking pan.. i think that was sweet too.. your cousin likely has a memory when ever he smells certain ingredients.. (my greatgrandmother always made "crum-cake" so the brownsugar is always a tie into her.. that and stale cracker-jacks.. ick..)

what warm and wonderful memories you have.. again thank you!

First off - I'm sorry for your loss.

Viewings - I've always found them creepy. I stand around, uncomfortably, focussing on anything but the body. I hear people remark about how great the body looks, but generally, my eyes are averted.

That being said, one of my grandmothers really looked at peace. She had suffered from a long, disabling, scary condition, which had basically tortured her for nearly a decade. Truthfully, she looked like she was finally resting and at peace.

My mother "swears" by viewings. She tragically lost her first husband in an auto accident. She was also severely injured in the accident. So, the doctors originally told her that he was fine. She stayed in the hospital for eight to nine months. Obviously, she missed the viewing and the funeral. She has said that it was very difficult for her to accept that her husband was dead, that she had no closure, that she never was there to say goodbye.

When my most last grandmother passed, my mother left the planning of the funeral to the grandkids. The four of us "shopped" at the funeral home, picking coffins, pillows, etc. In a way, it was nice. Almost like we were doing something for Mom Mom. My one request at the funeral was the song "Amazing Grace". It had always reminded me of her. Her name was Grace, and I guess that I had always tied the two together since childhood.

All of the grandkids left things in the coffin. Pictures, cross-stitch, etc. The most bizarre thing was my cousin (male) left baking pans and flour. Because my grandmother always make delicious rolls. I almost laughed outloud about the selfishness of my cousin (wanting my grandmother to be enternally baking rolls up in heaven).

After funerals, it is almost a family reunion with my family. I guess they operate almost like a wake. Lots of talking, remembering, catching up.

How do I want to be disposed of - I want to be buried. Why, you might ask. I want something "interesting" for the archaeologists to dig up in a couple of hundred years or so. There is little of scientific interest in cremated remains, so, I want to be buried intact, maybe with some cool "grave goods" to stump the archaeologists of the future.

Which gets me completely off topic, but I have to say - with all the plastic surgery inhancements (breasts, butts, chins, etc.) that they have these days, what will future archaeologists make of our culture?

First off - I’m sorry for your loss.

Viewings - I’ve always found them creepy.

My mother “swears” by viewings.

The four of us “shopped” at the funeral home, picking coffins, pillows, etc. In a way, it was nice. Almost like we were doing something for Mom Mom. My one request at the funeral was the song “Amazing Grace”. It had always reminded me of her. Her name was Grace, and I guess that I had always tied the two together since childhood.

well said.. and that is what kills me..
they can blatanly pick at McCain's age..
and onthe same token they are trying to find something McCain/Palin could be saying about Obama.. but they can't..so they have to make things up..
sure there is and likely always be some form of racism.. no, that is not a good thing, but it is a reality.. and I am wiht you.. when they chant the race issue so freaking much.. you grow numb to it.. it loses all meaning..
it is THEM (Obama & friends) who is has an issue about race.. ironic huh?

An interesting book to read would be "The Forgotten Man"
http://www.amazon.com/Forgotten-Man-History-Great-Depression/dp/0066211700

The book is about the Great Depression, from the beginning to the end.

Hoover is discussed, is somewhat redeemed by the book. Conversely, FDR does not come out as the "Lib God" that we have all been programmed to believe in. In fact, this book states that his policies prolonged the depression, not cured it...
